play-with-foodHow many times have you heard a parent tell their child “Don’t play with your food?” If it gets your kids to sit down for a healthy meal, we’re all in favor of playing with your food! Here are two “sea-snack” ideas to make your child’s eating enjoyable, even for the pickiest little palates.

fish-talesFishin’ Tales – Your child will love catching fish with this celery stick fishing pole.

  • Celery Sticks
  • Peanut Butter
  • Goldfish Crackers

Wash the celery stalks and cut off the ends to get rid of any “hard to chew” stalk. Place a plate of Goldfish crackers on a plate in the middle of table. Scoop a serving of peanut butter on each child’s plate (to ensure no double dipping). Once these ingredients are set out – let the fishing begin!

crabby-pattyA Crabby Patty Sandwich – Whoever thought a crab could be so cute!

  • Two (2) Slices of Bread
  • Peanut Butter
  • Strawberry Jelly
  • One (1) Red Apple
  • One (1) Large Marshmallow
  • Five (5) Raisins

Cut the bread into a circle. Spread peanut butter between the bread, and press together. Spread the jelly on the topside of the bread. Cut the apple in half, and then cut that half in half. Cut out a v shape to make the claw. With the remaining apple scraps – create legs by cutting three strips to make the legs and cut off two pieces for the arms. Cut the marshmallow in half and place in the “eye” position on the jelly bread. Place one raisin in the center of each marshmallow and use the remaining to make the mouth. With ideas like this, and healthy food choices, you AND your child will eat every bite with a smile. Happy summer snacking!
